Happy Tick Tock Day!

What is it? Who the hell knows, but it is deemed a holiday here, which is one we have never heard of. Thought I would put that in to say Merry Christmas to the many – few couple of people who actually read this blog; on that day, but it didn’t quite work out so: Happy Tick Tock day!

Well that time of year again to show off what presents that we got. Well I got a few cool things which many I’ve told about and shared with already, but here are pictures and a small reviews to some I have actually either read, watched, or even touched (I have gotten two Blu-Ray DVDs and I can not play until I have an actual Blu-Ray player):

SDC11200

the office DVDs I actually started to watch and got during my birthday, and I will say now I must own three things after watching it: Season’s 3 and 4 on DVD and a Dwight bobble head. You will have to see the seasons for that to be explained to you. Mario Party 8 is a great Wii party game to own, if you know more than 4 friends…

Heroes Volume 2 and 2001: A Space Odyssey must be great on Blu-Ray if I actually owned one. The quality must be so great that you should own an HD to view it…

Beetle juice well is a great classic to own, I have not checked it out fully yet, but its a good movie with Michael Keaton and the rest. Also a good movie to own if your a Tim Burton fan. Its also got a nice lithograph cover and I should watch it soon.

SDC11203

This year, probably the only gift I really wanted since I have been converted in to a Watchmen fan, is Absolute Watchmen. It contains new colored art, new sketches, and other neat bonuses and the book is quite as big as my Absolute Batman: The Long Halloween set. I am also afraid to open the book for more than 5 seconds with this book as well. Also there's a really sad stupid story about how there are now dents in the set I got – I dropped it by mistake…

I also got a few other gifts including a Naruto: Uncut Box Set 5 for my birthday, which I also thank to the owner of AFOS, a couple of 1600 Microsoft points.

Concerning The Dark Knight Video Quality

Few days ago when I gave my Dark Knight review I said that the digital copy was the best video quality than from the DVD itself. Although that may be true (and still is) there are still some pretty noticeable differences which make the DVD edition a tad good as well. Yet as I have noticed in comparison shots, it is also somewhat an awkward transfer. I’m not kidding. The transfer seems somewhat and slightly squeezed. You’ll see what I mean in a bit. Let’s just say its not good, and its in pretty bad shape for DVD quality. As a quote from the Joker himself: (not my words mind you) “I mean, what happened? Your balls drop off?” I have seen Batman Begins better than this. (Okay, I have seen many DVDS better than this) Another government conspiracy it seems for people to side with Blu-Ray. Now for the comparisons:

As you can tell with the Commissioner Gordon pics that with the DVD version, its been squeezed a bit. Its possibly the strangest thing I have ever seen. Also each screen isn’t perfectly matched so some will looked zoomed than others because again its not the same position. But many I did get lucky on. From the picture comparisons we all know that the Blu-Ray edition is truly the best edition to get. Here are the same and more comparisons in the same order, but closer together: (pictures may look not as good because of resolution change, but its how it would look though)

More Watchmen Stuff

Here’s a new clip for ITunes people only. This footage was shown at comic con, but then again it isn’t. Its been edited and a few things are still left out including more violent footage. Although they did leave in The Comedian punching a certain non-male random person.

And here’s a bootleg version of the new X-Men: Wolverine Trailer:

Now with more clips and a revamped Smashing Pumpkins song. Unless you don’t want to see anymore clips, I’d turn back if I were you. Don’t mind and want to see more stuff? Watch it while its still up!:

If you can’t see it too well, you may want to double click it or go here. Also my Dark Knight review has been updated with another surprise.

New Dragonball Evolution and Terminator Salvation Trailers

Yep, names been changed (In Japan anyways) and a new trailer has leaked. I'm sorry but it is truly painful to my eyes. I really don't like it:

And here's the domestic version of Terminator Salvation:

An Epic Day

Most people know today is the day The Dark Knight is out on DVD. And I have the review of the FYE exclusive steelbook here. I did go to Best Buy to buy the Batpod Blu-Ray Special Edition, unfortunately they were out since I had no idea they had a midnight opening for the movie and I got nothing except for the Batman Statuette, which technically isn’t a statuette. Store exclusives here. In any case I got the movie at least and I’ll eventually get the Batpod online. And after seeing the Circuit City exclusive, I wants it now. With some partially bad news and good news out of the way, a random thing happened: I got an email saying I had won a contest, which was back in October, for a Ghost Story contest. My story that I wrote for some English club in my school, which was devised in about 5 minutes, will be published in Ghost Stories (which I assume is some sort of book) by my schools English Department and I get a check (amount wasn’t specified). Epic Indeed.

Now on to the review. First here are some very nice pictures of the Steelbook artwork:

SDC11190

Front Side

SDC11191

Back Side.

If I ever said The X-Files: I Want To Believe was the best Steelbook I have ever seen, I stand corrected; THIS is the best Steelbook I have ever seen. The Steelbook actually feels authentic, the feel of it is what makes it awesome. It feels like it will actually last more so than any other Steelbook.

The first disk is just the movie. No extras at all, but it is again how the previous Batman Begins was, so don’t expect a lot from the single disk edition. Although if you want a nicer copy of The Dark Knight, you may want to get the 2 disk edition and I will explain why:

On the second disk, it contains:

The Dark Knight: Digital Copy

Gotham Uncovered: Creation of a Scene

The Dark Knight IMAX Scenes: View the 6 scenes that was in IMAX (Note: It isn’t widescreen really, well it is but not anamorphic; a poor choice)

Gotham Tonight (Not a great feature, which is kinda like a Talk Show in Gotham.)

The Galleries – Poster Art, Production Stills and all the Trailers.

A nice set of extras no? Also the one thing that you might want to get this for is: The Digital Copy. For some odd reason it is way better than it is on the disk itself. It is also were the first time the Digital Copy is something I really like. The Windows format doesn’t work for some reason, but the Quicktime does and its in really great quality. It even has the IMAX sequences. A really odd choice, but yet its the best one to get.

The Result? This DVD gets about a 8.0. Its a great set, but I could use some more features. I also must see it on Blu-Ray. Remember to catch it in Theaters and IMAX again in January!

Update; Heres the Statuette picture:

Update 12/12:

Photobucket

I couldn't make it smaller, so you get to see a big size. I got it online so no hassle at the store.

December 3, 1988

Hm, what happened today 20 years ago…well I do know that it is around Who Framed Roger Rabbit? was released and had their 20th anniversary of the film. Great film by the way. Also Barry Sanders won the Heisman Trophy, whomever and what that is…besides 20 years ago, some other interesting things happened this day. Hulk Hogan won his 4th title against Undertaker (I do not watch wrestling at all so please don’t think I care at all of that). Well not really all important, but not to show off…today is my birthday.

Movies In Need Of A Re-Release Part 2

Yep, were (or I'm, rather) back to a new segment and I found some more ideas to movies or any DVD in general that are indeed in need of a Re-Release. Its been since May since I’ve done this? Well we have been getting lots of great DVDs this year with great Re-Release. Its been great since they actually Re-Released one item from my last list; which was: The Nightmare Before Christmas! It was a late add, but I had no idea. I am indeed awesome. Now besides still yearning A Rocketeer Re-Release here is a new list I have devised:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie Series:

Yes, the originals. Now they can do many things with this. They canteenage_mutant_ninja_turtles pull a Back to the Future and release it in one massive 3 movie set which I wouldn’t mind buying. I have always grown up with these guys and especially loved the first one. The other two, well I like for other reasons, but would buy even in a big set. Who else doesn’t think the 3rd movie feels like the old Ninja Turtles in Time Video Game? No one? Well, anyways if they release it individually, I might just go with the first one; it depends on a lot of things. At lease make a special edition of the first one please. Cowabunga!

An Unaltered Star Wars: The Original Trilogy Set:

Many Star Wars fans may and may not like the recent releases of the old Trilogy DVD, as with me, and crave the old Star Wars. Before it was altered in any way. It was released eventually, but I indeed was incredibly angry Star Wars fan when it has VHS quality video. It still gets me mad just thinking about it. I even have the old VHS original trilogy set; its like I could have done this on my own and put it on DVD. *sigh* Only in my dreams.

Akira, Princess Mononoke, and The End Of Evangelion:

I think its about time, no? I’ve had my copy of Akira for a while and Iakira haven’t gotten the old special edition set. Yet I feel there may be either more to say or at least an update. Just make a new Princess Mononoke and End of Eva DVD happen already. Tetsuo! Kaneda!

Disney Releases:

Disney has always had style and always make everything they owndisney exclusive. Meaning everything is just about limited with them. Especially with their Walt Disney Treasure sets. I have always disliked the fact that after a few months some of the sets were released, such as old Disney cartoons, are gone in an instant. Your last resort is to check EBay or just be plain lucky. Why should watching and exploring the history of its Disney cartoons be so exclusive? Especially with the movies. Disney’s Vault program has always been a bad idea. Wonder if Walt would even allow this if we arose from his frozen capsule today…

Hook:

Yeah, why not. I loved it. Anyone else? Nope? Just me?hook_ver1

Return to Oz:

Surprisingly frightening. An unofficial sequel of The Wizard of Oz1193936901-23117_full which indeed does deserve a new release. This is also Editor Walter Murch’s only film ever made. There is DVD release as of 2004, but I’d to see some extras on the idea of the story. Its a very dark flick which involves shock therapy to Dorothy whom is sent to an psychiatry ward, which you probably have a good guess why. If you haven’t seen it, be sure to check it out when you can. Also I caught this on Disney one night and crept the hell outta me. Those were the dark days of Disney indeed.

What else…I’ll get back to you in another 7 months.

Apocalypse Now

Just picked up this game and it really is the end in this game. I've played a good 10+ hours I think already with the game. Its a really long game but extremely addicting as you can tell. It really feels like Terminator except for John Connor and Skynet, but...I'll explain later. Well anyways it seems to revolve around an alternate world since the 1950 era is heavily influenced until the year of 2077, which was the year when the nuclear war began. In Fallout 3 the year is now 2277 and is set 200 years after the nuclear war. The first Fallout games occur at earlier time, but I haven't played them; so I will save the whole history of Fallout for a later time. Anyways, most humans have been living underground in Vaults to keep safe from the nuclear disaster. The player you play as escapes the vault he/she (You get to choose the gender) lives in and must look for his/her father in the post-apocalyptic landscape.

You will meet friendly people, confusing people, mutated animals/people, and people who will just shoot you on sight. The world is now officially screwed up yet the eery landscape has a somewhat beautiful sight to see. There are a few things that will help you survive in the barren world. One most important thing is the PIP-Boy 3000.

Everything you need will be right here. You can choose weapons, change your outfit, check stats, quests, etc. The PIP-Boy 3000 is now your best friend. Here's a video which shows a slew of things and a demonstration of the all around important VATS system:

Well thats most of all the basics of Fallout 3 and how to survive. I have not beaten the game yet so this is an incomplete review yet will recieve a rating anyway. And the Terminator theory, lets just say its not far off from an actual Terminator RPG which would be awesome. Also since with the new Terminator movie coming out soon, I need to be explained about the whole timeline with Terminator. Looks like Marty and Doc really screwed with the space time continuum with that.

Fallout 3 gets a 9.8 out of 10. An almost perfect score, if the character models wouldn't look so grudgy.

Our Next President: Barack Obama!

A new tomorrow? As Palin once put it: You betcha. A long road a head of him as he heads to the White House, unfortunately not for another 2 and a half months. Comedy Central covered the Polls nicely. CNN used holograms. Others I have no idea what they did. Obama slaughtered McCain gaining 338 in the polls and McCain with 156. Anyhow welcome our new and first Black President and new hope: Barack Obama.

I'm gonna be cheap and post some videos. Enjoy!

The World’s Ending

Has the world actually met its peak? A couple of new things I found on the net points to: yes. With the economy going down the drain and possibly Sarah Palin being soo close to being not only Vice President, but the first woman President (its not the woman part, don't get me wrong, its her in general) here are a couple of other signs of a possible Apocalypse:

Pepsi Bottle Company Group Logo Change:

When was it the last time Pepsi changed their logo? Not since the down of time has this really happened. I dislike the new proposed logo. Some say its just a horrible rumor, but I say it looks too good (or bad) to be true to not be. For now, take these photos with a grain of salt:

And the cans:

And the rest:

http://www.underconsideration.com/brandnew/archives/pepsi_new_work.gif

Earlier today I have witnessed the true “Gates of Hell.” I will provide a photo later, since it is just too gruesome for some. Today I came to work today and thought it would just be another boring day. Instead the whole theater was decorated for the new High School Musical 3 movie. It truly was a horrific site to see and I was in the middle of it forever haunting my dreams…

And earlier Fox announced its 2009 movie schedule: Another Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson-led “family adventure”: Tooth-Fairy (only god knows what will happen with this) and finally, "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakuel" will hit Christmas Day 2009.

Updated: The Incredible Hulk: 3 Disk Special Edition and Indiana Jones: KOTCS Target Sets

I missed out last time with Targets Iron Man Helmet DVD set, but not this time. I usually go with Steelbooks, but I really don’t see any reason to buy an Indiana Jones Steelbook and even if their was an Incredible Hulk Steelbook, I had to go with the Target set this time around. Don’t get me wrong Steelbooks are awesome, but I gotta go with something else sometime. Especially with the Hulk Set:

SDC11091

The set is really awesome. It really looks like he’s trying to break through.

SDC11097

Here’s what it comes with: The Incredible Hulk movie, exclusive Hulk breaking a break wall type of…whatever you would call it, a bonus disk, and the digital copy disk which is pretty much useless after you use it once. The thing that confuses me is why the bonus copy wouldn’t be put in back of the Hulk breaking through a wall set itself with the movie. They made it separate which is weird. Anyways just throw away the extra disk plastic and put it with the set and its better that way.

SDC11100

And here’s what it looks like as Norton/Hulk does what he does best.

Now onto the Indy 4 set. I wouldn’t say its the best out of the exclusive sets you get from the stores, but its the one I went for. The Best Buy is the better set, which I had to avoid last week and get a cheaper set:

SDC11105

This one comes in a book, similar to a previous Fullmetal Alchemist: Conquer of Shambala Limited Edition movie set; just to make a comparison if you have it. The only difference is that Indy includes a lenticular slipcover. Here are some other pics:

SDC11107

Here it is were the discs are inside the book. The book contains a neat production diary. Here’s an example:

SDC11109

Nice photos, although Indy is incredibly old. I still very much liked the movie though. Only two scenes that out me off, the rest is Indiana back at his best and very old self.

Video of the Day:

I mentioned a little thing about spike doing a Scream award show. I may have got the wrong date. So here’s the Watchmen Segment anyways in case you missed it:

That scene with Comedian being thrown out of the window looks better as we see a bit more of the scene from the trailer here.

Update 10/23 - Here's a higher quality video, in case the one here was too low: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GUmgQHvqqc

5 Things We Learned From I Am Legend And More News.

  • Welcome to the first segment of 5 things we learned from. Because of my poor will to be creative I have thought of 5 things that I Am Legend taught us about the world and about movies. Here it is starting from 5:

#5: When your infected/A Vampire you have no skin.

One of the very things that happens to you when you become infected from Will Smith’s version of I Am Legend is that your skin and hair are gone. Yet most of your clothes remain. You may be creepy as hell, but your missing a lot of your human features. This also happens in most movies when your infected, either that or your covered in either your own or someone else’s blood.

#4: If your not infected, lock yourself up in any way to not be seen or barricade windows, the infected won’t get in.

This bothered me a bit. Compared to the book, the book made more sense. For one thing Robert Neville is in an actual house. Will Smith Neville is not. Couldn’t they find other means to get in or just do what they did at the end? It seems the infected can get into the penthouse, yet you can never tell because of the explosion. Also they were Vampires in the book.

#3: When a virus breaks out, make sure you live near New Hampshire.

What else can I say? Just run for it.

#2: Never go full CGI on the infected.

No movie should ever do this. Especially with them. You couldn’t get full actors/actresses for them? It was interesting while it lasted, but it all seemed to much and unreal. Never, ever do this again in a movie.

#1: In the future their will be a Batman vs. Superman movie.

Just watch it before the end of the world. Here’s a picture where it was in the movie. Unfortunately, there's posters for other stuff, but those aren’t important. Just seeing it makes me more want to watch the movie. The only off-putting thing is the use of the old Tim Burton logo, which brings back all the bad Batman movies back in mind. But then again, they never make the same mistake 3 times. Unless your talking about Superman. I won’t go into that:

vlcsnap-189703

  • Planet Of The Apes isn’t far off from how society is going on today with making chimps full-fledged citizens. It may start in another part of the country as apparently chimp population dwindles. Poor chimps; don’t worry you will soon rule us all.
  • Just got the Indiana Jones set. My associate will make you buy it. I was about to buy the Best Buy set, but because of troubles with the economy (That’s an excuse, I’m just poor) I had to compensate and buy the Target set:

SDC10884

I’ll post pics later with the haul I’ve gotten after summer and some during. Also I wanted to save up for a horror game. I might go with Silent Hill: Origins first, but I’m still contemplating on getting either Dead Space or Silent Hill: Homecoming. I’m really bad at making choices.

  • Make sure to mark your calendars for October 28 since Spike TV will be showing Scream 2008, an award show supposedly, and will honor horror icons and feature lots of other cool stuff including footage from the Friday the 13th remake and some Watchmen clips! Don’t forget the date!
  • Next week The Incredible Hulk will be out on DVD so its time to save money again. I don’t know the exclusives which I was told of bit is all forgotten, but the set includes deleted scenes and a neat Easter Egg from one of the scenes. I won’t ruin it too much but they include a certain Avenger other than Tony Stark aka Iron Man. The new DVD of Iron Man also featured a little of an Easter Egg within the movie of this certain Avenger. Bet you can’t guess who it is if you don’t know:

Let's Go To Prison

Not to be confused with the film of the same name, but guess who is finally getting some well deserved jail time. We may all know it by now, but just guess by the picture:

Don't look so surprised O.J. You had this coming for years. He isn't smiling anymore like from past photos. The system, well even though it took years to get this guy in jail, finally works after many years. He could be in jail for life as I heard. Now thats some well needed justice, even if the crime seems a little smaller than past crimes, this guy needed to go to jail. Here's the video for proof:

Yes, he will be sent to the Phantom Zone.

Dragonball The Movie Leaked Trailer

Yes, most of us saw just how cheesy the leaked pictures looked. Now for the trailer itself:

We can establish one thing now; it does not look like a Power Rangers movie. It looks better, slightly better from what I thought. Now we will have to wait for the full trailer to actually hear how the dialogue stands out. Gives me chills just thinking about it. Not the good chills either.

Update 10/03:
Now heres a more pre-official trailer, its not official yet, but it seems somewhat legit. I don't know why theres a need for two teasers, but here they are. Also the second teaser is more stranger than the first, you'll know why.

Death To WaMu

Untitled-1 copy

Yesterday marks the death of the biggest used banks of all time, and first casualty of the failing economy, also known as Washington Mutual. It is also called the biggest bank failures in history. Due to recent economy failures WaMu is now bought out by JPMorgan, also Chase to some of you who know. If you know nothing about banking you probably stopped reading after the first few sentences and I don’t blame you since I know nothing myself. I only mention this since I have an account with WaMu and just read changes are coming soon. Right now its still being kept as WaMu, so actually WaMu is not completely dead, yet. All WaMu banks will eventually be changed to Chase. So what’s going on with the economy? I have no idea completely I just know its really bad and its all sorta improving, but not much. No idea what's gonna happen, but we all have that wait and see attitude going on, I certainly have it.

Video of the Day:

Yes honestly, I used the whole death of WaMu thing as an excuse to show this. Good excuse? You be the Judge.

The Godfather DVD Set vs. The Godfather: The Coppola Restoration

VLUU L210 / Samsung L210

Yes, I double dipped yet again. But I have my reasons. This reason is because the DVD set to the left is my moms. Very cool set if your just looking for The Godfather and don’t care about quality and just have a good amount of extras. Now with the new set, with an extra title of “The Coppola Restoration” has both almost perfect quality movies and more extras. Here are some snapshot comparison of both DVD’s:

And here are even closer comparison’s (I wasn’t as lazy):

(Click for bigger picture) Same order as well.

appolina killed

Same order. Also apparently they did many takes of Apollonia’s death scene.

Here are some more pic’s I feel I shouldn’t show (for obvious reasons) yet are important due to color and contrast.

So far how do the movies hold out? Well obviously the Coppola Restoration takes the cake on this one.

Now for the Box sets pictures:

SDC10783

Here’s the original within 4 cardboard boxes. Not thin-packs mind you, but card board boxes.

SDC10784

Now for the Steelbook, since I did get the Steelbook packaing will be different and less space. How did they fit 5 DVD’s you ask, the most they fit into a Steelbook? Here’s how:

SDC10790

It exists! Strange packaging, but they do exist. Kinda wondering why they don’t do this for most box sets. Either for less money, or to make the box set look nicer. Either way its a win-win situation, also depending on packaging contents. This Steelbook only includes a book which is glued to the back of it. Very poorly which I may add which could damage the detail book if removed improperly:

SDC10797

Also I’m a bit anal retentive when it comes to box art. Some of you may know this, but I like simple art as well. Just the name of the movie and what the DVD set is will just about do it for me. I don’t care much for the blood effect with the portraits of the cast embedded with it, but I still like Steelbooks anyways. In the end it all depends on the quality of the DVD you want, wiether you care or not, but don't think you can find the older version due to out of print. Don’t have The Godfather yet? Time to get it. Why do we need Blu-Ray if it looks nice enough? *shrugs* More marketing?

Video of the Day(?):

So what is this anyways? An Expansion Pak? Something?!:
