A Good Year to be a Gamer

There are a bunch of new video games coming out for the new decade. Which include New and Old faces. Just announced recently was an old face. Somehow I knew he would return to the good days of 2D gaming, but I didn’t think it would be similar to the new Mega Man 10 game:

Sonic the Hedgehog 4

Sonic is back the way he should have many years ago. Only because the 3D wasn’t working so much anymore. Not that it has worked after Sonic Adventure 2. It went downhill in that area.

BioShock 2

Next up will be a favorite for steam punk fans and fans of the previous Bioshock venture. With Bioshock 2 looking more awesome each time I see a video, its one video game I will most definitely play for hours. Here’s an awesome full CGI launch trailer:

Aliens vs. Predator

Remember Aliens vs. Predator and how awesome it was? I’m talking about the old PC games, in case you’re confused. Ever want to relieve scenes from Aliens? Well not really, but mostly yes. This is why it sounds much cooler as a game than a movie:

Transformers: War for Cybertron

To my knowledge, I don’t really think Transformers has gotten a good video game. The movies haven’t really helped either. The Playstation 2 game might have been good, but I never really played it myself. Well it looks like they may finally get a good video game. From what I’ve seen, it may be a prequel to the whole Transformers mythology. Which is good since we haven’t really gotten a full picture how the whole war started between Autobots and Decepticons. Check out another trailer:

Fallout: New Vegas

Fallout is now going the way of the Star Wars KOTOR series and is now being made by Obsidian. Its not necessarily a bad thing either. Don’t get me wrong KOTOR II was a really entertaining game. New Vegas does and will be an interesting concept. We wont know how Obsidian will take the approach of VATS, hopefully adding new elements to it and not making it seem like its getting old. Vegas looks somewhat new now and is one of the only cities up and running in the Fallout world. I sure will be there, as I have with Fallout 3, to see a new side of this post apocalyptic world:

The Almighty Xbox 360...

Amid the Conan debacle, Avatar sinking the Titanic (its not really a joke), and whatnot. I managed to find something at least something to post here. Since I've apparently been a lost of words lately. This is no exception. All I can say is this: Someone made a pretty awesome Transformers Xbox 360 mod; The All Spark:

It kinda makes me wanna mod. A day that will never come. More pics here.

IMAX Woes

Hey out there its been a while. I wanted to talk about something recent so here it is and where I stand in this whole IMAX fiasco that’s beginning. Aziz Ansari, of Parks and Recreation fame, complained on his blog about how “IMAX Digital” rips you off. I think I have known this from the beginning when I first saw IMAX in the digital projection and I went in thinking it was the huge screen you usually see. I believe IMAX first started this way with films rather than the documentary films which are in full blown IMAX. Its usually gotten better with Universal CityWalk, after going back to see The Day the Earth Stood Still, after feeling relieved to know it had the big screen as advertised.

Now its getting bad again with movies releasing in IMAX digital screens. Yes, they are significantly smaller and are a rip off. There’s no denying this. How can you pay to see a film for $16 on a huge screen and still pay the same price on a smaller screen? Here is a comparison from Aziz's blog:

The smaller screen is the thing in question. Really? Why call it IMAX? Why pay $16 for that? Its only a few inches bigger than the screen at my theater, but its fundamentally the same. Its only $7.50 matinee price at the Krikorian theater (where they show digital screen showings), compared to $16. I’m just saving you money here if you go to the IMAX digital theaters.

I also did a bit of research of my own and found nowhere on the IMAX website that shows the screen size between an Original huge IMAX screen between the small IMAX screen. Seriously go to the website now and just look around for a few minutes. They say absolutely nothing. To further save you the trouble of finding out which theaters have a real IMAX screen here is a map which shows the real screens.

That’s a lot of screens with digital IMAX. I am intrigued about the Dome IMAX theaters. Those must be awesome. Anyways, bottom line: go to theaters with a digital screens that aren’t marked with IMAX and go to the true IMAX screens posted on the map. Saves you a ton of money. On the other hand if you go to an IMAX theater; at least go to a true one. Even though Aziz probably made a bad choice of watching the whole movie, he is completely right on the matter. IMAX Digital plainly sucks. Common sense. Save money, especially during the economy.

Movie Posters that look like other Posters:

Technically the art that compares to this movie poster, isn’t a poster, but they both really look the same. Here we began by showing the latest Transformers poster for the new movie:

transformers_revenge_of_the_fallen

After looking at it and realizing it looked like something I have seen before. It dawned on me:

The dude who created the Transformers Poster is an Eva fan! Nuff said.

Something Extra:

Has anyone seen anything of Fringe? If you have, you gotta seriously watch the season finale. That was one of the best 47 minutes and 6 seconds I have ever seen. Its seriously going to be like Lost, too (Both created by J.J. Abrams too). Abrams is now the new god of television and movies. Plus there’s some Spock on the finale, there’s a big upside.

Two Transformers Revealed

Unless you want to find out when the movie or trailer comes out; I’d turn back if I were you.

These two Transformers are big in the movie (no pun intended) so I won’t go too big into detail, but they are very different from the comic books, this being Michael Bay of course. He redesigned the other Transformers so its no surprise these were altered in some way as well. Both are particularly very much altered in many strange and mysterious ways. I will probably also show comparisons between the T.V. Series/ toy version and the movie version. So if your interested in spoilers, here they are now:

T.V. Show Devastator:

Live Action Devastator:

Comic Book The Fallen:

Live Action Movie The Fallen:

I also wonder if the Fallen would be as huge has Devastator would be in the movie. I also now know why they filmed in Egypt also because of the close up of the Fallen’s face from the poster. These are some of the biggest facelifts since I just recently found out about Jack Box’s facelift.
