Top 10 Anticipated Movies for 2011
Usually I put out a list of the Top Movies I saw in the previous year, but because my list is short and I plan to watch a couple movies before making that list; I decided to make this one first.
Here comes a big year for Marvel with three movies coming and one for DC. I have more than 20 movies to watch this year, so this sounds like a very good year for movies (That’s until you see the 2012 movie list which is epic with a war of comic book movies in the summer). Well, take a look:
10.) Battle: Los Angeles
The creepy tone of the trailer makes you feel the intense battle going on in LA. It takes place in present day with soldiers battling Aliens that doesn’t seem to have a whole lot of high-tech technology. We don’t get to see that very often. Its time to see Two-Face fight some aliens.(March 11)
9.) Paul
Remember that movie I posted about earlier where Simon Pegg and Nick Frost go to Comic-Con in a new movie? This is that movie. The British comedians are nerds in the movie and take a nerdy trek across America and meet an Alien that sounds like Seth Rogen. I don’t dig Seth Rogen voicing the Alien, but Simon and Nick will bring their greatest comedic humor with this movie. This will be the Comedy movie I will look forward to most this year. (March 18)
8.) Thor
The first Marvel movie of the year and one of the most desired comic book adaptations is finally coming. The comic-con and official trailer look quite faithful to the comic-book and looks as if it will have a smooth transition to the mega-movie: “The Avengers.” Yeah, it will be a whole lot better than whatever is going on in the image above from The Incredible Hulk Live-Action series. The picture probably gives away the cameo in a strange way.(May 6)
7.) Captain America: The First Avenger
I’ve never really been an avid fan of Captain America. Sure I saw him make a few appearances in Spider-Man and played with him a couple of times in Marvel vs. Capcom 2, but his first movie sucked and I didn’t really truly see him as a super hero. I mean all I’ve seen him do is punch and kick and throw his shield. I only hope this movie will do him justice. The cast seems pretty good (aside from Chris Evans) and I have high hopes in the director. (July 22)
6.) Super 8
Not much is known about this movie. Heck, not much is known about most of JJ Abrams’ movies until a few months before its released. Again all we have is a teaser trailer and Abrams stating it’s a throwback to old Super 8 films and an inspiration to Steven Spielberg's company Amblin Entertainment. Even then I know I'll watch this movie 3 times maximum.(June 10)
5.) The Muppets
The Muppets created by Jim Henson have not graced the screen for some time and have been quite absent for a while. The last Muppet movie was in 2005 and not since 2008 have they made an appearance. Well Jason Segel is about to change all that as he brings the Muppets once again to the big screen with a [modern] all-star cast. I’ve missed the Muppets for a while since they have been releasing pretty mediocre stuff recently. Hopefully Jason Segel can revive the once almighty Muppets. What's with the Muppet holding an iPhone, though? (November 23)
4.) Cowboys & Aliens
Cowboys vs. Aliens vs. Indiana Jones (it will be better than Crystal Skull) vs. James Bond. Anything more need to be said? (July 29)
3.) Sucker Punch
I really have no idea what this movie is about, but it looks visually awesome. This will be Zack Snyder’s first attempt at an original movie so there is a whole lot to look forward here. (March 25)
2.) X-Men: First Class
Little is known about this X-Men movie. Some rumors tend to be: Centers around Magneto, the movie will jump some timelines, and the whole X-Men team probably won’t be here. I never read the First Class comic book either but it sure looks great. I’ve always cared much about the X-Men franchise so I sure am glad a new movie is coming soon. Wait, Kevin Bacon is a mutant? (June 3)
1.) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Yes, its true. This will be the must see movie of the year because it will be the end for Harry Potter and his wizard friends. I never read the books and have always thoroughly enjoyed the movies. I’ve seen the movies from the beginning and am pretty sure I saw each one in theaters. I mostly stay away from the books because I may become those people who bother themselves too much by comparing book and movie. Here’s to enjoying the movies as much as I can before I read the books. (July 15)
Now here’s a list of worth mentioning movies that didn’t make the top 10 list in no particular order:
- Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (May 20)
- The Green Lantern (June 17) – The trailer was a little weird and I’m kinda looking forward to the other Marvel movies this year. Its probably because it’s the first non-Superman/Batman universe DC movie.
- The Green Hornet (January 14)
- The Hangover 2 (May 26) – Because British comedy is always better.
- Rise of the Apes (June 24) – I honestly wanted this on my list until I read that they changed storylines a bit with this prequel to the older movies. I’ll still go see it. Unfortunately the apes are going to be CGI as I see Andy Serkis doing his Gollum CGI suit thing once again.
- Winnie the Pooh (July 15) – This is my favorite Disney character and being hand drawn is a big win.
- Fright Night (August 15) – David Tennant in a horror movie? I’m in.
- The Thing (October 14)
- Sherlock Holmes 2 (December 16) – I enjoyed the first movie, so I know I’ll probably like this one.
- The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn (December 23)
- Now (September 30) - Andrew Niccol’s next movie for more than 5 years. Created such movies as The Truman Show and Gattaca.
- Dibbuk Box (October 28) – A horror movie from Sam Raimi. You know it will be great.
- Hugo Cabret (December 9) – Steam punk movie from Martin Scorsese.
- Your Highness (April 9) – If you have seen the trailer, its going to be one of the best comedies as the year.
- Red State (March TBA) – Next film from Kevin Smith. It is said to be totally different from his previous films.
- Scream 4 (April 15)
- Transformers: Dark of the Moon (July 1) – Only going to give this one more try.
- Apollo 18 (April 22)

Two Wii’s, A Movie, and A Web Log
Excuse the mess. I’ve been trying to find a good blog theme, but I have yet to find one to fit Inside The Briefcase and have yet to suffice. I thought this one would be fine, but apparently a banner doesn’t fit in this one. So sadly I must move on to another one. Unfortunately I am also limited on blog Template’s, but all will be better soon. In the meantime; The gaming world is left restless today because of this:
The PlayStation’s motion controller has been officially named PlayStation Move today at GDC. Kinda disappointed by that. I kinda like the Arc prototype name better. Then again I have never been looking forward to this. I really dislike the design and the whole concept. I can tell you why its exactly like a Wii. Well for one thing they announced a nunchuck like peripheral. Totally similar, except for the fact its got a D pad, two buttons, a PS button, and its wireless. Wii has a wireless nunchuck and it works just the same. It may not be official, but its still just a copy. Even in today’s conference their own words were “Think of it as a Wii nunchuck.” Words that should never have been said since its basically saying it is a copy of a nunchuck.
Here’s another similarity: It uses the PlayStation EyeToy in order to track the movements of the Move. The Wii uses the same concept. It has a sensor bar and can track the movements of the Wiimote from the bar. You aren’t fooling me Sony. I know you copied the Wii, don’t try and sneak your way out of this one. Just because you have a ball on top of your motion controller doesn’t make it any different.
And another: Wrist Straps, although not really major and they don’t seem to be so anal retentive about keeping the strap on as much as a Wiimote.
Now for some differences: There’s a ball. It’s quite unnoticeable and a bit distracting. It also changes color. The reason for that is it changes color depending on the situation on the screen. So if your curious it will be shipped in different colored balls? It will not. Its just the effect the ball has. It also changes depending the color of the room. If it doesn’t have a certain color, the ball will change to a color the room does not present. Its pretty freaky sounding to me. Apparently the ball has emotions.
There’s other differences, but I feel isn’t important from where I read since the Wiimote can do basically anything the Move can do. Wither it be from third party products or the like, the Wiimote thought it first. So now apparently the Wii is now in HD and is called the PS Move. And I predict soon Sony will get a lawsuit in the near future.
This is also why Project Natal has a much better concept than PS Move. The games they previewed at GDC were so gimmicky, it was really such an awful showing for me. I suspect a better future for Xbox 360 than PS3.
- Some fans were outraged yesterday as people thought (because of Fox News’ poor and premature judgment) that John Krasinski, yes that John Krasinski, was Marvel’s favorite to be picked to be Captain America. Turns out, Fox News is always wrong.
Now the favorite was previous Fantastic Four member Chris Evans. Its a better choice. Even if he is a pretty cheesy actor. The only reason I accept this is because Fantastic Four is now being rebooted. And I in no way, can see Jim Halpert do an Action movie after being his Jim Halpert self on The Office. There was no way. It never sounded like a serious choice to me. Well Jim’s out and now we are left with three choices. Human Torch being on the top. The others: Mike Vogel (Cloverfield) and Garrett Hedlund (He’s Flynn’s son in the recent Tron Legacy trailer).
- Did I say A movie? Because I really meant two, but then the title wouldn’t have worked. So really nothing worked, but lets continue: Christopher Nolan is apparently rebooting Superman. But he won’t direct it. He will only work on the script and produce it. Either way I trust in Nolan and Superman will be good. But I’m more of a Batman guy, so:
David Goyer and John Nolan is also finishing up the script for Batman 3; stating officially John Nolan is working on Batman 3. Even if Warner Bros. doesn’t want to admit that yet. Nolan also stated for the record that this will be the last Batman movie. Its sad to learn this, but its better to finish something than to see it continue and not being able to work its magic anymore.
Chris Nolan probably sees this too. He said he wants to finish it and of course like most of his movies, I will be there to see one of his masterpieces finish in amazing fashion. Nolan also mentioned: key surviving characters from previous movies and actors who played them will be back in the final installment. That rules out Joker coming back then. Another mention he stated was that another villain won’t be added to the franchise. Damn.
It may mean Two-Face isn’t dead though. Although I don’t know how it will play out with current villains, I still believe in Christopher Nolan.
Also a Superman/Batman movie won’t happen. Oh, well.
- On a final note I thought a post this video…for steam punk fans. Enjoy!:

Bad News, Good News, and Probably More Good News
- First the bad news. If you haven’t heard already, iMAGi studios has closed its doors earlier this week. After reviving a few movies, which were more than decent. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to keep the doors open. The problem now? The most recent film they were developing, Gatchaman, is more than likely dead. Remember those trailers? Yeah you probably won’t see that anymore. Never did see the show too much as a kid, but this did seem a bit better than previous movies. It may be released on DVD, but if it wasn’t finished, its less likely that chance will happen either. Too bad for the short lived company.
- Now for some Good News; Christopher Nolan’s third Batman movie may be in development. As David S. Goyer has announced leaving Flash Forward to focus on more movie scripts. Which is more than likely the 3rd Batman movie. As an added bonus: Warner Bros. has also announced Christopher Nolan will take over the Superman franchise. I still have yet to understand this outcome, since Superman has a bit of a worse run than Batman through the years (And also for a fact I didn’t think Nolan would take on a project like this). But we may see a Batman/Superman movie. Maybe. By the way think about this: David Tennant as The Riddler?
- Captain America has announced the villain for the movie. Kinda easy since it takes place during World War II, but if you don’t want a spoiler, skip now. Highlight: Its Red Skull.
- The next Spider-Man will be in 3D. Not sure how I feel about that. I’m still not even sure of a reboot, which goes back to high school.
- Jaws 3D has been announced, which is a reboot. I think. No. Wait. Yea-No. Probably. Maybe. It stars Tracy Morgan. Its a start for Jaws 19 being released in 2015.
