Top 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2009

Here are my choices for this year’s Movies that will premiere this year. I certainly wont steal my associates Top 9 choices so I picked 10 this time. I compiled a list before of the movies I would be seeing and came up with 20, which evens out a bit. There was also a movie on there that even though how bad it looks, I still can’t deny my being a fan of the series. Well anyways here’s my Top 10:

10.) 9

No I’m not counting down its an actual movie. Based on the short animation by Shane Acker, its set in a Post-Apocalyptic world were sock puppets are alive and roam freely. I am a fan of Animation movies, but not ones that look incredibly strange. Yet this is an exception. Its also produced by Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov, who directed Wanted. Check out the Trailer:

You can also check out the short here.

9.) Sherlock Holmes

Anything with Robert Downey Jr., now after Iron Man and Tropic Thunder, is probably a must see now like this one. Also hearing the man being knocked unconscious, caught his groin on fire, and other sorts on set; the movie’s gotta be epic now right?

8.) X-Men Origins: Wolverine

After seeing the trailer on this one, I realized, its not only Wolverine’s Origin, but also the Weapon X project origin. It makes the movie more interesting yes, but the execution of the trailer seemed poorly done compared to the comic-con version. Although you do get to see more of Gambit and others in the official version, so it also evens itself out. Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool was interesting, which also paves way for his own movie, which was put in Development Hell years ago (dates back to the 80s).

7.) Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen

Only fans, and friends of fans, of comics (or the T.V. series if I believe) know what the title actually means. What it means for the rest of us? More action and lots of it. That’s all what we really need right? The first movie had great execution and if we know Michael Bay for his action movies, this one will be great as well.

6.) Inglourious Basterds

Did I mention I was a fan of Quentin Tarantino? Well if I didn’t mention it enough, what blog would this be if I didn’t mention his new movie coming out later this year? No, I didn’t spell it wrong, the name of the movie is completely intentional. Quentin is known for his movies with are nothing but a bloodbath and great storytelling. This is no exception either. Based on an old war movie, which may be a Grindhouse movie, but I may be mistaken; tells the tale of a unit in World War II which spreads fear towards the Nazi Army. Also stars Brad Pitt (with an amusing mustache) and B.J. Novak (The Office fame). Did I mention this is a Quentin Tarantino movie?

basterds

Now on to the Top 5…but first I would like to mention a few worthy mentions, which I will see throughout the year as well: Moon, Avatar, The Road, Astro Boy, and The Hurt Locker. You will probably have to do some research on your own about some of the movies, but I will eventually see them. The reason they didn’t make it is I probably won’t get to see them right away. Or They may be replacments for the ones here. Who knows. Continuing on…

5.) Public Enemies

The Dark Knight vs. Jack Sparrow, eh? Christian Bale and Johnny Depp are great actors and I have been wanting to see what they can do together (Well mostly in a Batman movie), but this will do for now. The other thing is I’m a sucker for cop or detective movies based around the 1930’s era. There seems to be a lot that happened within the era as well.

4.) Star Trek

Just to point out, I’m not a big Star Trek fan, but the trailer sucked me in. Its also directed by J.J. Abrams and he has made some very good things; which include Mission: Impossible III, Alias, Lost, Fringe, and created the idea of Cloverfield. The plot for this movie was revealed and when I heard about it, it was really interesting and new. The trailer itself will make you see it, so just watch it.

3.) Terminator: Salvation

Yes, we all know by now that McG, the director for this movie, has made the Charlie's Angels movie. But that was in the past, this is now a new and improved McG. He saw his mistake and is going to fix it with this movie. The trailer is really mind blowing. I couldn’t really get enough of it. Christian Bale is now on my list twice so that’s gotta be something. This movie is really different because of how many times John Connor has tried to stop Skynet from the future he never wanted. Yet, it ultimately comes, but not the future he was told about which makes things different. So don’t let the McG thing be a turn off and just look at the trailer. Also I’m a huge Terminator fan.

2.) Up

After watching Wall·E yesterday, finally, I was ready for my next Pixar movie to watch. Everything is about trailers these days and it also shows a basic summary or a teaser for the movie. This movie’s trailer was something a little different. It first shows a compilation of Pixar movie’s, which becomes nostalgic, and a bit of a huge clip of Up. What is up about? Some old man who makes a bunch of balloons and goes off in the distance with his house and a boy happens to be along for the ride. I’m sold. Also this happens at some point:

1.) Watchmen

Its not really a surprise to most people, but my question is; Who doesn’t want to watch the Watchmen? After being introduced to the Watchmen graphic novel and reading it, I was an instant fan.I too was skeptical of a movie being made about the novel. But if there was one man who could do it: Zack Snyder the director of 300 and Dawn of the Dead (2004). Unfortunately now with the rights to Watchmen now go to 20th Century Fox the movie may not come out this year as scheduled, right now it is still scheduled and still my number one pick for the year of 2009 (and it better come out). Trailer.

Cloverfield DVD Store Exclusives

Update: The Steelbook at FYE this week will sell for...holy crap, $20? Get it while its hot and for a sweet sale price.

Don't know which edition to buy of the Cloverfield DVD from a store? Well here's the exclusives you'll get from each major store. And some from the minor ones. Also the DVD comes out April 22nd. Taken from source: http://www.slashfilm.com/2008/04/14/cloverfield-dvd-exclusives/. I made my own wording, so I'm not copying everything:

cloverfieldsteeldvd

FYE/Suncoast - From these stores, mostly found at malls, you get this sweet looking DVD Steelbook(If your a collector of DVD's and don't know what steelbooks are by now, you've basically been living under a rock for a few years). For those of you not knowing what Steelbooks are they are the newest additions to DVD and video game covers. It is made of a special metal which makes the DVD's feel more powerful, but not much durable. Awesome covers, but you have to be super careful with them since they dent easily(I learned the hard way with my Transformers, X-2, and Halo 2 Steelbooks. The pain still hurts...). If you don't mind handling them well, want a sweet cover for the DVD, and also a cover that actually goes with the theme of the movie; buy this edition. I believe it comes with a second disk, but I'm not saying that officially either so don't take my word for it. Two things I would mention is that its a bit more pricey than the other edition DVDs selling around $29(Not sure on actual sale price so stay tuned for that) and also these are limited which sell out quicker than regular DVDs so its best to reserve it at the nearest FYE or Suncoast before the release date. I highly recommend this version than others if price isn't a factor and I already reserved my copy as well for $5.

hudsdiary

Best Buy - Just as the description says, its an extra DVD that has a 30 minute featurette with "Hud", seen above, who was mostly (It was also shot with other types of camera with different cameramen) behind the camera. Minor Spoiler: He was seen at the beginning for a few minutes before receiving the camera. Major Spoiler: And at the end when he probably had the coolest death seen on film. (Death isn't a joke kids, maybe only in movies [at times I may add], but still no joke.)

*Footage not Found*

Kmart and Sears(?) - Since when does Sears sell DVDs in the first place? That's knew to me. And doesn't help their case either when the only exclusive they have a free Cloverfield ringtone. Just as the website says; that's pretty lame.

cloverfieldcd

Target - And Target is doing this exclusive once again with the exclusive soundtrack of basically every piece music you have heard from the movie. Although the name has gotten to me, for some reason, its called "Rob's Goin' To Japan Party Mix!" An obvious mix CD. If interested what's on the thing here's every single soundtrack, that I have never heard of, that's on the CD:

  • OK GO - “Here It Goes Again”
  • Goldfrapp - “Ooh La La”
  • Coconut Records - “West Coast”
  • Scissors for Lefty - “Got Your Moments”
  • The Vapors - “Turning Japanese”
  • Parliament - “Give Up the Funk”
  • Of Montreal - “Wraith Pinned to the Mist”
  • The Blood Arm - “Do I Have Your Attention?”
  • Bright Eyes - “Four Winds”

I might of heard of the first one, but then again who cares?

Circuit City - No word yet surprisenly, but it will probably end up announcing what comes with the DVD the day it cames out.

Want to get a nice version which price isn't a factor? Get the Steelbook. Want a cheaper one with more extras? Eh...go with the Best Buy one. The rest is up to you.

The Regular Version - This one is found any place that sells DVDs and here's the cover art with extras. It may be the poster, but I'm not digging it so much, although, I kinda like the homage to Escape From New York's Poster on the back cover (Technically Cloverfield did it first).

Front Cover:

cloverfield-front

Back Cover:

cloverfield-back

Here's the ridiculously short runtime and other specs:

Runtime: 1 Hr. 24 Min. Sec.
Languages: English, French Dubbed & Subtitled, Spanish
Audio: 5.1 Surround, Dolby Digital
US Rating: PG-13 - For Violence, Terror And Disturbing Images

If you can't read the extras here it is:

Deleted Scenes, 2 Alternate Endings (Which I heard are disappointing, but decide for yourself), Outtakes (Eh, I'll take it), The Making of Cloverfield Featurette. Other Featurettes: Cloverfield Visual Effects; I Saw It! It's Alive! It's Huge; and Clover Fun. And 7 Easter Eggs (Figure what those are on your own).

Well this is one loaded DVD. The extras should further boost our curiosity of the Cloverfield phenomenon. And the Blu-Ray Edition should basically have the same extras. Also the movie isn't for everyone, but just watch the movie (If you don't get motion sickness easily) and have your own opinion of it afterwards.

So which edition are you getting?

Oh yeah and Kenneth was right (Comes from November 2007):

"What Is That?!"

"I don't know, something terrible."

  • Actually its something pretty cool.
Unless you want to see the movie Cloverfield, then don't look at these next pictures which shows a toy sized Cloverfield Monster. Unless you want to spoil the movie or already seen the move take a look at what the monster looks like as a Hasbro toy. Its pretty sweet:
Pic 1
Pic 2
Pic 3
Pic 4
Pic 5
Pic 6
Yes it includes the Liberty Head and no I don't think it comes with the Hasbro truck. Its also only available online for $99.99.

  • Well I just saw the movie again and I forgot just how awesome the movie really was. So I am going to give my second time watch Cloverfield movie Review:
Cloverfield is one of those movies that audiences will be very confused about and will get mixed reviews. For some reason people want good acting in every movie they see. They obviously are not movie fans, at all. What people don't realize is in this movie, they aren't supposed to be good at acting, because they are acting. They are acting like everyday people, we aren't actors and probably never will be good. How would you react to a monster attacking your city? Exactly, just how they are acting in the movie, or somehow different. This is how these people react to it.

Oh yeah and this movie will really get you sick if you are a person a victim to motion sickness just to tell you. The camera is really shaky. If you don't get sick, then enjoy the movie. There are very many scenes were it will scare you, and movies rarely do that these days. The monster is really scary too, it looks also just as insane as J.J. Abrams described. Watching this movie twice gives me a better sense on what this movie is really about. First time I was scared, this time, not as much, but it was still really good.

Well thats all I have really to say since I don't want to give a lot away, but its really good and everyone should see it, but realize the acting please. Maybe its best to just wait till it comes out on DVD since not a lot of theaters are showing it. Well if I rate this on a scale of 1-10 i give it about an 8.5. Its really good so enjoy it.

Also theres speculation theres two monsters, who knows.

Word(s) of the Day: Burlap Sac (This gets stuck in my head a lot)
